...is noisy computer fans.
Yes...that issue again. And it's always the 10mm sized ones that are used with harddrive coolers. Last time I got fed up with it I just got a whole new harddrive cooler, but now they are acting up again, so of course I went to oil them.
Not so easy this time with this model. I had trouble finding the right tools and by the time I found the right one for the screws holding down the fans themselves, one screw heads was so badly stripped that I couldn't remove it anyway. Seriously, why do they make those screw heads out of such weak metal? Anyway, I could only oil one fan because of that, so now the unit is only 'half' as loud...but going on twice as long (at least..it's still going even as I type this: usually it has shut up by now: maybe it's mourning it's now silent partner....).
I am seriously considering not going with harddrive coolers at all next time I get a new computer (which my brother and I have been discussing), as they are just too much trouble. It's not like I overtax the harddrive to begin with, so I should be able to get away with not using one. If it comes to it, I could always place the harddrive (s) next to case intake or outtake fan.
And yes, I know about liquid cooling...however that system is still too expensive for my pocket book.
Edit: Fuck it...*unplugs the power to the offending fans* Ahhhh....much better.

But then there's the annoying, wheezing low-budget fans as well ... those of course aren't as easily dealt with. I learned my lesson by now though, never to buy a too cheap PC setup in the first place.
Hope that fan stays quiet now.
